hey. i have a 2foot nano as well, i upgraded to a 2x2x2, and am planning a reef octopus nw-110 or a marine sources ms 120, but was hoping to keep the 2foot nano in service too. How did you get your airlift skimmer to work. what size pump did you run, i just cant get it tuned. i can either produce way too much skimate, or when i tune it down, it produces no skimate, just fills the cup with bubbles. any tips?

Hey dude

This skimmer i think its just one of those red sea airlift 60's or something was just an aqua one 2500 pump i ran it off, usually its to do with how high or low you put the water level in the skimmer, the higher you have it the darker the stuff will be if it is lower you will be producing more of the wet lighter stuff.

This skimmer didnt really produce the dark muck you find in others but it was a steady dark brown liquid produced, i think it worked pretty well too be honest!

Will be getting those pics of the fish and QT soon matty

You could put in another baffle on the left and use as a dsb, you could the use carbon in a FBF/cannister.

Havent updated for a while so here we go,

I got a couple of holes drilled and made my overflow/sump which consists of compartment 1 skimmer and where the water flows down, 2 is the liverock, heater and just a 5cm layer of sand with caulerpa could of put more sand but i ran out :nut: and the 3rd compartment is just the 4800L/hr return pump!

So here it is;

Little update

Fixed up my whole tank journal, re-sizing the older pics which should provide better reading and viewing.

Since my last update i have added a new little addition the long horned cowfish called Mad Dog
Image

I have also added a bubble tip anemone which has swelled in size from a tennis ball to a football ha ha and is now hosting a pair of clarkis, surprisingly it found a big hole in a rock that i had carved for my nano and hasnt moved fingers crossed, touch wood!

looks like you overcame the skimmer and WS issues ok. Crypto is the devil :pirate:

not sure about the return pump but are the sump/DT water levels consistent? I know nothing about sumps...

has the cow fish bitten you yet? :devil:

Cheers for the comments Jesse,

All is going very well and my FTS has changed alot since that last one :)

Cowfish has bitten me quite a few times i actually scooped him into a large net the other day for 5 mins as he wouldn't let up when i had to re-arrange all my corals haha hasn't bitten me since, best fish though!

Bit of an update;

Just ordered a new lighting unit from Guppys which has the 150W halides plus 4x54W actinics to bring out the colour of my corals more.

Picked up a yellow tail cleaner wrasse yesterday from Ocean Reefs.

Was thinking of grabbing a Vortech MP40W but i think i may wait until i have a bit more money lol or until someone can convince me :P

I have been offered a toxic green hammer coral which i will be picking up in the next couple of days stay tuned for some pics !

Also i got some duncans and a nice lobophyllia from Darren the fish doctor which are top notch so thankyou Darren!

Yeah did you change out the halide bulbs and get new ones, i am keen to get my hands on some 20K bulbs but i figure with the actinics it wont matter too much?

That would happen to be the CDU toxic green :devil: ;)

havent changed out the MH globes yet but have changed out the T5's.

up to personal preference i think in regards to lighting choice. The light that comes from the GAPO MH globes is pretty white/yellow so an upgrade to a good 14000k would be my choice.
I mainly use the T5's to supplement the MH, running the MH or 5 hours and the T5's for 10 hours. theres a mix of Aqua blue +, fiji blue and 2 GAPO actinics T5 globes. i need to change the last too out cos they've faded a heap in just a few months.

I wanna see this hammer :pirate:
