Deesters 30x20x20 [TOTM October 2008] No Longer

Postby Deester » Sat 01 Dec, 2007 2:53 pm

Hi guys,

Well after selling my last tank and relocating to Sydney, I have slowly been collecting the gear for my new custom rig. Space is of a premium in my flat, so the new rig is not a large set up, but should be cool none the less.

Planning on keeping SPS, Clams and some select Softies. Custom tank, sump and cab is hopefully arriving next week or weekend. Many many pics to come.

Still nutting out my livestock list ... decisions decisions !!! :nut:

Here's a list of what I have sitting in the cupboard waiting for the new rig to arrive so I can start the install. YAY !!!:pirate:

Tank and Cabinet - Arriving Soon

30x20x20 10ml Glass Euro Braced
Centre Weir with Durso and Return
Custom Sump with Refugium - In Cab
Custom RO Storage Tank - In Cab
900ml High Cabinet with Open Top Crown Hood with Custom Stain

Equipment - What I Already Have - All Brand New

Reef Octopus NW 110 Skimmer - Still to Arrive
SunSun 150W or 250W (Atco Ballast) with T5 Actinics (Still Deciding on 150W or 250W) :nut:
Tunze 3000 lph Adjustable Return Pump
Tunze NanoStream 6045 x 2
Tunze NanoStream 6025 x 1
Tunze Osmolator Auto RO Top Up
Tunze Calcium/Kalk Dispenser
Hailea HC300A Chiller with 2000lph Eheim Compact Adjustable Pump
Skimz Phosphate Reactor with 600lph Eheim Compact Adjustable Pump
Eheim/Jager 150w Heaters x 2
American Marine Inc PH Monitor
American Marine Inc Temp Monitor
Piranha Float Algae Magnet

Cheers,

Dee. :pirate:

Sounds like fun! Would you even need 250W MH in a tank that size? Sounds a bit like overkill... :nut:

BTW, welcome to Sydney!
Where in Sydney are you?

G'day Dust,

Yeah, most prob overkill on the lighting :nut: Would prefer 150W for energy consumption and heat generated, but have read many threads where tank owners always want to up the lighting ... thought I might just go in hard :nut: After all I am hoping for a SPS dominated tank with clams etc .... although I'm sure 150W would be "sufficient" ... I change my mind about what wattage to use daily :wall:

Cheers,

Dee. :pirate:

EDIT - Thanks for the welcome to Syd  I'm in Lavender Bay/McMahons Point

Hi Guys,

Well finally got my camera back from the inlaws. So thought I would update my TJ ... better late than never

My chiller croaked a week or so ago ... throwing the temp all over the place and upsetting some SPS :wall: Got the fixed chiller back on Fri, so fingers crossed some of the browned out SPS will re colour up :crossfingers:

I don't have an overly impressive collection of corals and SPS, but I am slowly working on it ;) I never seem to be in the right place at the right time :roflmao:

Anyway, here's some pics ... My camera does kooky things to the colours under halides

Hi All,

Just some more pics ;)

Tank side on ...

Image

Small clam.

Image

Dallas frag.

Image

Humble Zoa collection.

Image

And my messy sump. Needs a little tidy up :nut:

Image

Tank specs ...

SG - 1.026
PH - 8.3
Alk - 11dKH
Calc - 430ppm
Mag - 1250ppm
Ammonia - 0ppm
Nitrite - 0ppm
Nitrate - Undetectable
Phosphate - Undetectable
Temp 25-26c

I was planning on a dsb/fuge in my front compartment of the sump, but with 0 nitrates at the moment I will hold off until I get a nitrate reading. The tank started of with 2-4 ppm Nitrate for the first month, but now has been solid with a 0ppm reading for 2 months.

Cheers,

Dee.

Gday Thai

Cheers mate, yeah the clams are doing well. I am hoping to add some more SPS, I just find it hard to get nice colourfull pieces both at LFS and OLS ... I have a great knack of just missing out :roflmao: I 'm hoping to get a nice plating monti or two ;)

Heya Adrian,

Thanks mate  Yeah, that's a real shame about your clam mate :( Thanks for the kind words, I am looking forward to when it all fills out with some growth ... so far all the acros are showing good growth. Time to start looking for some real nice pieces of acro ;)

Ahaha, yeah errr ... I could of worded that a little better, sorry to get your hopes up ... but I'm married with a kid mate :poke:

spanishmack wrote:love the tank, very nice, very nice colours Clap

Hiay Jase,

Thanks for the comments  I ended up using 150W with 14K AOA bulb in a guppy 2ft halide with the ballast replaced with a ATCO from the group buy. Everything seems happy with that amount of light ... only thing is the spread of light, left and right could be a little better. Would dearly love a Lumen Bright/LumenArc .... one day !

pazz wrote:awesome looking tank you have done a great job , that clam is amazing

Cheers pazz  yeah that blue maxima seems to be getting better colour by the day ;) you can't see it in the pic, but it looks like it's getting a dark purple colour to the rim of the mantle ... I really like the silver spotting of the mantle too.

Cheers,

Dee.

Hi Pazz

I'll take some pics for you in the next lot I take mate. My durso/return set up is very basic, my durso is pretty much well a stand pipe with a durso elbow on it :nut:

I keep the water level in my weir about an inch from the lip due to the fact my lawn mower blenny loves getting into the weir and munching all the algae and crap in there. If I have the level any lower, he is unable to pop back out into the display when he's done, he keeps the weir very clean :nut:

The overflow still performs it's duties well set up like that ... surface skims and is whisper silent, so I am happy with that arrangement.

My return simply comes back up through my weir and up and over, both intake and return have ball valves to fine tune weir and return chamber levels .... very basic set up.

Top lip of my weir sits 30ml below the euro bracing. This is so the crown hood covers the water line for a cleaner look.

Cheers,

Dee.

Cool Jai, no probs ... good luck with your cube mate  560mm sounds ok if it's a 2ft cube.
