ben im using the main pump which after head pressure and flow to the refugium should equate to 6000lhr. Should this amount of flow turn out to be insufficient I can add power heads later. What do tou think?

going is slow but now has a top edging to hide pipe work, has water , the fug is up and going. I'm still working on the lighting and in tank circulation.

Great tank. The options will be endless. So much that can be done with that much space. Keep up the forum and of course the photos.
Cheers

The solatube installation looks fantastic!

Stupid Q, but how do you service your tank if you need the extra space to lean over the tank?

just an update I thought I was all go for corals introduced a few, suffered bleaching and dieback checked phosphates 0.5-1.0 ppm. I have since routed the main pump to my skimmer and am now making a lot more skimmate, I have ordered a second skimmer RO nw-200 otp which will sit in my sump as well, and have ordered purephos and cannister. Untill I can set these up I have been doing large water changes. All my other water parameters are fine. The tank is currently overran with algae which appears to thrive with natural sunlight and phosphates :konk: lesson learnt should have been monitoring phosphates from the begining.

Can you post a pic with only the solatubes lighting your tank please. Also some roof installation shots etc.

I'd say heaps of people would be interested in how you did it.

hi jim the images of the tank in the previous posts show the tank illmuinated with the solatubes only, the MH's are turned off. When I chased the tubes through the local agent the price for diy kits I was told was nearly the price I got for them to be installed. So they were installed by the agent, it took 2 of them 6hrs to install. It was a lot easier and quicker than doing them myself. Several joists were cut and I felt easier knowing they wer professionally done in the event I ever had an insurance claim. Having said that, after I placed the order I found out through Rod the roofer that solatube have an outlet in S.A. which sell direct to the public. I never got a price, but if you were thinking of installing them yourself I would contact rod.

well after months of doing 100lt weekly changes, and upgrading my skimmer nitrates 0 phoshates <0.1 , things are starting to improve the cyno and algae has dropped off a fair bit and the couple of corals I have seem to be improving. I dont know if this is also due to my light intensity decreasing. It was a sunny day yesterday and I was getting readings of 800 under the solatubes and 600 under the metal halides. In january I was getting 1300

Nice job on the reactor, I built mine similar to dj88's as well. I also have an 8x2x2, it will be interesting to compare bubble and flow rates.
