I'd certainly be online more if I wasn't getting the "this website is not secure message" when logging in.
Does anybody else have this issue? Is it universal?
My password often doesn't work too...

Yea the "not secure" warning thing I think is a google scam to make people spend more money; our shopping cart had that problem and if you just spend $99 (yearly?) on a "secure certification" then the warning goes away, without changing anything else.

Hey SantaMonica
Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure it's that, though. Happens on different browsers, different devices, etc. But not for other websites that I visit requiring a log in.

The URL for your avatar seems to link to a webpage, and not and image location.
http://www.invasivespeciesinfo.gov/images/species/lionfish_sm.jpg

I suspect you need to link to the image:

I haven't come across the "not secure" thing. I use Chrome and Internet Explorer

Thanks for that, Colin. My avatar worked properly for years but i'll follow your advice.

Yeah, very strange about the messages as nobody else seems to be having the same issues.

With the ban on Facebook advertising livestock, is there a possibility of us stepping up our classified section with photos functions etc to maybe help drive back vistors?

Excellent idea! updating the platform to enable the ease of posting photos would not only help with the classifieds, but make the whole forum much more workable!
The idea has been floated previously but i believe the discussed potential platform upgrades did not have the photo feature (i could be wrong..)

pretty sure it is a blanket ban on live animal sales in 'their' effort to do something about cat and dog farms.

Correct, Animal sales are banned.
Cats/Dogs must be microchipped and come from registered breeders or the page will be shutdown.

I agree with others, time for a Forum 2.0.
Leaders of the Various MASA societies, how active are your members? Do you operate member only forums which have more life than this?

If there are integration issues perhaps just have the old one running as an archive and look at getting a new one up and running with a good classifieds section and some more basic categories than before?

If there was a like button I would click it.

To the MASOX communities.
If this forum is to be reborn / rebuilt / migrated.
I would like to suggest this platform - https://invisioncommunity.com/

A number of other communities I am apart of use this forum platform and it works very effectively with very small IT requirements to keep operational.

Looks pretty good, i think we would need to end up hosting it though as the data storage allowances look pretty restrictive on the cloud-based system if we started hosting our own images and vids.

I like the idea of being able to use google adsense as well, so even if direct sponsorship isnt was it used to be we could rely on that to hopefully pad out the difference.

It looks like they have inhouse design team as well, I wonder what it would cost for them to do the hard work considering one of the issues that have been stopping something like this happening is the people within the inner circle of trust are too time poor to do it.

Free image hosting via Imgur (following on from large communities like Reddit)
https://imgur.com/

According to the pricing page
"Design Service starts at $850"
I'm sure for us to have the classified section added would be custom consulting.

Any reason I see all the mods, admin and society leaders come and look at this post but everything is dead quiet about doing anything?

Is there discussions at least going on in the background or is it the general consensus that things will be left as they are to slowly die?

Good question.. don’t know the answer but I do hope so. I saw another post saying there is enough coin to keep this forum going, in its current ‘state’ for a few more years. A change of platform was noted a while back as necessary to keep the forum viable. With FB’s stance on sales now is the time to make those changes, otherwise all the informative posts and subject matter will be lost.
