Week Challenge, Theme: Center, 6th to 12th March

Postby Dr DBW » Wed 23 Feb, 2011 10:25 am

Theme
Center

Time Frame
Sunday 6th to Saturday 12th March, 2011

Concept
The idea behind the challenge is not a competition. It is a way to get people out using their cameras (no matter what sort it is) taking photographs, interpreting the theme, working with what is available, working on techniques, exploring features on the camera and further developing photographic skills. Others can then provide feedback on the images taken, how it could be improved, what other techniques to try and so on.

Feedback
Comments can be left by all registered users at the bottom of the page for each photograph. To get to the photograph page you must click on the photograph title. If you click on the photograph itself, it will enlarge the photograph on the screen. Photographs can also be rated by all users, on a scale of 1 to 10.

Conditions
  • Theme is made available on the Friday before the week challenge commences.
  • Each participant is challenged to take a photograph on each day, on the theme specified. That is a total of 7 different photographs, each taken on a separate day.
  • Photograph are uploaded to the participants own gallery, linked to below.
  • Each photograph should be titled with the date it was taken and a title, showing how it is linked to the theme. For example: "6th: Some funky and abstract title"
  • Participants are encouraged to upload an image for the day even if didn't take any "good" photos.
  • There are no requirements on post-processing of the photographs, do as you see fit and the photograph requires.

Gallery
All photographs can be seen via the challenge gallery at gallery/album.php?album_id=273

Participants
This is a list of the people that are participating in the challenge. Clicking on their username will take you to the album containing their entries.

Feel free to discuss photo ideas, ask for inspiration etc.

And yes, theme was picked randomly, it just happened to be number 1 in the list :)

So is "Centre" (note non american spelling ) the theme for sunday, or the whole week?

Good way to confuse things ;) Way I have always used it is (and there is some dispute, varies from country to country etc):

Centre is a gathering place.

Center is the middle of something.

Each participant is challenged to take a photograph on each day, on the theme specified.

ryanrid wrote:sorry but could you please clarify what is meant by center?

That is entirely up to you to interpret the theme.

Yeah, lets argue language and meaning ;)

More reading on it - http://crofsblogs.typepad.com/english/2 ... centr.html

And you can find many that go both ways.

So, what are we doing here, discussing semantics of language or taking photos? :poke: ;)

To help others along, ideas I have kicking around (I don't think it is actually too hard :) And if you use my ideas here, you better acknowledge it ;) And I am going to keep a few too myself, can't give everything away):

Wheels / circles.
Chocolate with caramel center / fruit showing seed or stone.
Water drop, top view.
Whirlpool.
Partner or child (center of someone's world).
Some item dominating the center of the photo.
City square.
Transport hub (Flinders Street Station / Southern Cross Station / docks)
Flower with focus on center.
Vanishing point.

Did you see the size (pixels, filetype, and filesize) constraints listed at the bottom?

Will be interesting to see by the end of the week and everyone has upload them, how different they all are and whether there are some that are similar. Certainly off to a good start from all of those that have uploaded so far.
