Anyone interested in a week challenge?

Postby Dr DBW » Tue 15 Feb, 2011 6:03 pm

Was just thinking would be interesting to have a week long challenge in which anyone could get involved in. All that participate have to take a photo each day of that week, 7 days, and they have to be on a particular theme, say "Building". And each photo has to have something to do with that, such as of a building, of the process of building an object and so on. Not only would this get the photographic skills going, but also the interpretation and working with what you have available to you.

Silly idea?

Anyone interestedin participating?

I will put here a list of users that are interested in participating:

ive only got my point and shoot, no fancy dslr, but would be interested.
Would it be a new theme per day or a theme for the week?

Same here. I need the inspiration to do more with my camera - just a waterproof point and shoot though.

Open to suggestions.

My thought was the same theme for the entire week, which would make it a bit more challenging.

But could certainly have a different one for each day of the week.

I think one theme, one week would be better. Easier to organise, and it would let me keep a train of thought going from one picture to the next.

I'll try to get into this one but don't normally do these photo a day kind of things

will be very good for sharpening up skills in specialized areas.

Start first or second week of March, so I don't have to have two photos every day ;)

March start will be good. Time to plan. Nominate the first subject ahead of time?

Yeah, we need to nominate some themes, or get someone to choose one.

Do we want somewhere to upload them, or simple get participants to display them in a topic in this forum? First option is we could use the RTAW Gallery, with a sub gallery for each participant to upload them into. Or second is you upload them to your own place, then within a single topic, each participant has a single post into which to display the seven images.

And as has already been said, you can participate with any camera.

sounds great, i dont use my camera enough, this will be a good excuse to get out and 'shoot',

i might nominate, 'water' as the first theme, seems pretty broad to start with, hands up if you thought of your fish tank strait away :P

I have started a list in my first post on those interested in participating.

Each photo should have a title too, showing how it is linked to the theme.

Once I add another lens to my kit I'll be in for it I think.

I wasn't really thinking of this as a competition. Just a way to get people taking photos, thinking more about the technique and subject they are using, sharing them and developing photographic skills.

And we already have an aquarium related photo competition (which should be making a reappearance shortly). Don't want to detract from that.

We did it over on nano-reef for ages, it's a good way to build your skills.

no prize needed i dont think, just a good skills building exercise. It might help you win the aquarium related comp later on!
I think the real interesting part will be seeing peoples interpretaton of the weeks theme

is there a neater way to setout the thread though, cause it will get pretty crazy with all photos going on one place, or maybe not i dunno, just thinking out loud

That was why I suggested galleries via RTAW Gallery. Would be easy to navigate, you would be able to see all images for one person at one look, single click to zoom in, can comment directly on the images themselves etc and the images are up there to stay, they wont disappear at a later point when someone losses an image hosting account. With this number participating, might be the only decent way to do it.

Another option is to set up a sub forum within the photography forum, then each participant has a topic to post their pictures, people can comment etc. People will have to find place to host these themselves, either on an external site or you could use your personal gallery here on RTAW to host them, if you are a MASX member.

Sub forum would be best i think doc.

Could be called "member challenges", that way it's not only this challenge that can happen, but multiple challenges.

Each person can just start a thread for their own 7 day challenge with the title something like "tmd77's weekly themed challenge - BUILDING"

there are also a couple of other challenges i have in mind which i've borrowed/altered from other forums i'm on, which would be good to throw in every now and then.

and MAYBE a sticky with a link of everyones topic so they dont get lost, cause i know for ME i would probably go into the LIST topic and just open each link in a new tab and work my way through,
