Theme: What in the World is That!?

This month we are looking for photos that make you stop and wonder exactly what it is a photograph of. Whether that is due to the organism being photographed is highly unusual or that the scale, angle or cropping is out of the ordinary making it difficult to discern what it is.

As always the subject matter needs to be marine related, and that is not limited to livestock either.

Prizes are only valid for the month from winning.

Rules
  1. Each person may submit up to two photos by uploading the image(s) in the appropriate RTAW Gallery album - 2010 October
  2. Each image must be 800x600 or less with the minimum of editing (normal post processing if you are using RAW). The aim is to display the subject matter as realistically as possible. Please also have on hand a full resolution copy of the submitted images on hand, as the winning images are made available as wallpapers for fellow users.
  3. No matting or framing on the images. If you add a signature / copyright mark please keep them to as small and inconspicuous as possible (too large and they become distracting).
  4. The photo must be your photo, but it can be from your tank, another person's tank, an aquarium or the ocean itself. But most importantly it must be your photo. The photographers retain all copyright to their submitted images whether they win or not however it is a condition of entry that you agree to allow MASA to use your image within the RTAW domain, and allow MASA and other RTAW members to download your image as a wallpaper for personal use only.
  5. The submitted photographs must be taken within the past 6 months, and submitted to the thread by no later than 11:59pm on the last day of that month. Photos must not have been submitted to the RTAW Monthly Photo Competition on a previous occasion.
  6. All entries will be looked at for composition, content, adherence to the topic as well as artistic appeal, technical and aesthetic qualities.
  7. Please feel free to comment in this thread. After completion of the competition and voting, comments are also enabled on the photo pages.
  8. If people would like to add the specifications of their photo's feel free to do so but it is not a requirement.
  9. Overseas entrants are welcome to participate but due to sponsorship arrangements we currently are not in a position to ship prizes internationally. Overseas entrants can still gain recognition of winning such events albeit without any prize award.
  10. Prize must be claimed by winner within 1 month of winner being announced.

Entries close on the 31st of October at 12:00am (midnight), when voting them opens for all users for a period of 7 days. The winner, and scores as voted by users, is then released on the 8th of November.

Enter your photos HERE!

Good luck and happy snapping!

Let the Comp begin!

EDIT: photos removed and placed in appropriate gallery, my odds of winning were just reduced dramatically after now not being the only entrant

OK, we have the entries in for this, quite a few for October, but I was not around to promote the voting. So, I will open up the voting again, concluding in a weeks time.

So, please take the time to go to the gallery and vote for as many of the images as you like, more the better. You rate the images from 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest score. Voting for images you like and don't like, and all those in between will assist in sorting out the overall winners.

October POTM

Best way to do the voting, is to start from the first or last images entered, vote for it, click the link Click here to return to the image, then go to the next image by click on the thumbnail on the left or right.

Voting closes next Monday the 13th.

Yep, it is indeed.

Then people ask why competitions etc aren't being run ;)

Though that isn't quite the reason they have been lacking recent, doesn't really encourage those organising it to do so again.

The re-voting, to try and get more people to vote (we got one or two more people voting) ended yesterday.

So the winner is now:

423

Congratulations JacksonLee

Based on the score that people give them, out of ten, as noted above:
So, please take the time to go to the gallery and vote for as many of the images as you like, more the better. You rate the images from 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest score. Voting for images you like and don't like, and all those in between will assist in sorting out the overall winners.

Oh i see..

Well since the thread said October i just assumed it was old so didn't look in here. Since I have seen the quality of pics from others and also the fact that I don't own a macro lens, I have not entered into any of these comps.

Im assuming this is why most people don't enter. Yes offcourse you don't need a marco lens all the time and you can work around it.. but its not nearly as good as one.

My 2 cents.

I feel guilty when I enter because of my camera skills and equipment so generally don't enter these anymore. Good to see some guys participating rather than seeing no one enter after a few good shots are posted. Maybe we could have 2 prizes, one for best beginner as well? (not sure how that grading could be done though)

Number of entries has not really been a problem / issue. There is pretty much always not a bad group of entries.
