zeebull's LED 5x2x2 Shut down April 2012

Postby zeebull » Fri 19 Oct, 2007 11:48 am

Well here we go , after many months of meaning to start my tank journal I thought its about time I stopped reading everybody else's (way to many amazing tanks to get side tracked bye) and try to make a start of some description.
I have had a 4x18x20 for about 10 years which was originally a full reef set up but after getting sick of moving tank from house to house it become a fish only set up. Then over the last year I have slowly started building it back into a reef tank.
All was going really well (mainly thanks to this site, so much has changed over the years ) when we became unhappy with a couple of the scratches on the glass so decided a new tank would be needed
so after much umming and arring a 5x2x2 was decided on.

After looking around at a few tanks and cabinets I decided that I could save a bit of money and try to build a cabinet and hood for myself. So I borrowed a few ideas from people from this site. As it turned out I should have borrowed their carpentry skills as well

I had meant to take a few progress pics but as usual got carried away in the construction and forgot about the camera.

Transferred all stock and most of the equipment into the new tank. Since the new tank was going in the same spot as the old one was sitting we gave it a fresh water test for a couple of days and sorted out a couple of plumbing leeks and then we were ready to roll.

Well I'm sure any body else who has moved / transferred a tank already knows it takes a lot longer than you first estimate . was still going well into the night at which stage missus was keeping well away from MR STRESSED :furious:

Tank is looking great! Nice and clean, enjoy it while it lasts! I think the aquascape looks great. Plenty of spots for new corals.

Yeah it was great to see him slowly changing (and I mean slowly )

Does anybody know how old the wrasse is before it turns into an adult? Because quite often you see them in adult stages in the shops and they are a lot smaller in size

Well its been a while and we have made a couple of changes to the tank recently so thought we would update our journal.
I have never been 100% happy with the rock work on the right hand side of the tank, so when we got the chance we decided to pull it down and try to flatten it out a bit as it was too straight up and down for my liking.
At the same time, we also purchased one large piece of rock to fill in the centre back part of the tank a bit. The original plan was to try to build an arch between the two bommies, but when we saw the unique table top shaped piece of rock sitting in Pete's tank at 100% Reef safe our plans were quickly changed.
Personally, I am much happier with the look of the tank since making the changes (for now anyway).
We have also started dripping kalk water as the extra corals were starting to go through the calcium and alkalinity powders a bit too quick for my wallet's liking. Hopefully we will be getting a Reef Octopus calcium reactor shortly to help keep levels up.
Anyway, that's enough jabbering for now - time for some pics

Another $5 bargain. Was very pale cream in colour, started getting a green tinge and is now getting purple tips

An anemone that hitchhiked on some rock, any suggestion on an id would be great

Just realized how many pics I have put up so better stop for now. Hope you enjoy and thanks for looking.
