Hi

I have a 4x2x2.5 tank. Would I Need one or two of these units, keeping in mind that I don't want any dark areas in the tank. Also, given that there is no control for sunset/sunrise with these units, is there any impact on the corals with the intense light coming straight on? Thanks

hi steve wat sort of corals do you wanna keep , i have seen 2 of these over a 5x2x2 so i should be fine , they had to lense kits a 90 ' and 120' i think it is, the 90' you will have to kiev higher to get the spread and the 120' you can have lower , pm ozspock he has them over his tank and he can contact orphek for you so they just send you an email with the pay pal details cheers jai

Hi :wavey: Steve,
As "Pazz" has just mentioned there are 2 units over a 5x2x2, but this one has Euro bracing, so uninterupted light spread.
If you have the Standard Tank design with the normal bracing, then where the bracing crosses the width of your tank the light will be restricted slightly by the bracing.
You could place the Orphek units across the width of the open spaces.
This problem we also have on our 4x2x2 and using MH's. But we're going to replace the MH's with 2x PR-156W units shortly.
These LEDs have performed above our expectations compared to our MH's & a few of the Chinese brands that we've tested out in the last 6 months.
And as "Pazz" already mentioned, depends on what your setup is, as to what unit you choose. the PR-156W units still have a good PAR at 2ft deep.
Good Luck,

Thanks for your response guys, it all sounds pretty good. I do have the standard tank as far as bracing goes. Will have to hang them perpandicular to overcome the brace. Looking to have SPS and acros in the tank. Currently have a number of soft corals and half dozen anemones under T5s which I think will benefit from the new lighting. Have there been any issues with rust or corrosion? Thanks.

hi steve i dont see any chance of these rusting or getting any corrosion to get the right spread the lights are 20 inches at least of the water surface , to me they are the best looking led units on the market and not overly blue like those bsled units , have a look on there web site 2 units over half a tank and 2 400watt halides on the other side and the led side is so much brighter and the color is better , my 2 cents cheers jai

Hi Jai

Yeah, I am sold on the lighting. I will be buying a couple of the units in the near future after our bank account gets over the hangover from Christmas.

Hi guys,

Just go back from christmas myself and good to see that the topic is really going ahead, would like to see some more pics of how peoples tanks are doing.

Letting you know I will be reviewing a new light from ORPHEK soon, it is a small 24W light which looks like it will be suited to the nano tank members or for people who might like to use them in their grow out tanks or sumps. When I get more info on them I will share for all to see.

AU_DEATH wrote:I have to agree with Oz on this one, I contacted Simone and she told me to raise the lights up. That is why I would have prefered to do a PAR chart at different heights...if anyone has any instrumentation I would gladly have a look at doing some measurements on the bottom of my tank...would be better on a new setup without any sand and corals..just water.

Ha anyone had a chance to put together the above mentioned PAR chart? I think it would be a great piece of information to have for future reference. Also, is anyone able to post more photos to show how things have progressed after installing the lights. I can't wait to get a set of these babies on our tank, it'll give us such a greater range of corals that we can have in the tank. Also, the current lighting that we have is really promoting a bad dose of hair algae at the moment :furious: :furious: .

Yep, the more the merrier and hopefully we'll get a pretty good deal. So looking at it, between the three of us we're up to 6 units. Not sure how the group by works i.e. doees one pay for it and then the others reimburse? Can someone explain? Thanks

Given that we have exceeded the end date for the sale, it will be interesting to see what discount they actually give us. $650 for one unit followed by a discount for each unit thereafter was the going rate and hopefully they will still give us this type of discount.

Hi :wavey: Reefers,
The Orphek Oz special just ended yesterday, deadline was 31st Jan.
Pricing for only one unit is: US$700
However if you group buy & order 6 the cost is only: US$575 per unit. Nice Saving....!!! :-x :-x
The only small problem I see is that the units will be delivered to one person.
With the total cost then exceeding A$1000 there is always a small possibility that Customs will charge you GST..... :wall:
When we ordered our 6 units we were lucky .... No GST ....

I been following this thread with great interest.
I have a few questions for the guys there have the lights.
I have a 1500 x 600 x 600 tank with two braces, would the light drop to much under the braces to grow Acros?
Or would 3 x units be to much light?
Can you get a 3 meter cord between the unit and the power unit?
Thanks for all your info

Thanks Gibbon
Rather than do a formal group buy can we get enough Melbourne based reefers to make up the six units,I'm after 2 myself.
That way pick up/delivery will be easy and even if we cop the GST it still will work out cheaper.

Hi :wavey: Reefers,
My Dad just receievd a reply from Orphek.
They suggest that a Group Buy is a good idea, but keep numbers to about 4 units. that way less chance of Tax issues in their experiences.
However you would have to nominate one central delivery person and point for the units to be dropped off at.
Each person can receive their own PayPal invoice for payments.
Hope this helps you guys.... Good Luck.

Im sure they can split packages.
Either different states or different household, just charge separate shipping.
Avoid the 1,000$ customs limit.

Hmmnn, doesn't bode well for me here in Canberra with separate state orders as it looks like I'm the only one from the ACT.....Doesn't matter though, the savings would be nice but happy to go it alone if need be.

Brian;

In reply to your question about the braces and interfering with the light...I am currently growing three pieces of Acro and one of them is directly under a brace. There seems to be good growth, however I have just noticed a small dead patch from the xenia which is growing next to it. I believe that the lights will be fine over your braces when growing Acros.

The other part of your topic was about getting a three meter cord. I am sure if you asked very nicely they would do something for you.

Regards.
