Hi been out of the hobby for a few years, but my wife secretly purchased me a new tank as she knows I missed it,

The Tank is an Aqua one Minireef 160 its main tank is 90cmx45cmx45cm, sump is 60cmx38cmx40cm and rodi storage is 16cmx38x40cm

So far all I have done is fill with ro/di water added sand and salt, tweaked the over flow pipe like in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNT5QSEMzB0 to cancel out some noise, added in a Aquael Reef Circulator 2500 power head and aquaone auto top system

I have ordered 18kg of Caribsea life rock shapes, going to try Bacteria House Bio Block in the sump and 90CM DSunY Marine LED with wifi for main light

Purchased another Aquael Reef Circulator 2500 power head for left side of tank.

also 3D printed and new return nozzle to replace the straight though pipe that came with the tank and 4 loc-line connections in abs
this one splits the water flow in to 4 different directions as it comes out, works great and seems to have increased return pressure

Parameter update:

Salinity: 1.025
PH: 8.1
KH: 120ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrate: 10ppm

I have been left a dead King prawn in the water to make that ammonia read on the test, but I still haven't seen any ammonia, or nitrite, but nitrate is going up and diatoms are showing on some of the small live rock bits i got from the lfs and a small amount on the sand

I have a feeling that might have to do with the Caribsea life rock's Bacteria

While waiting for the tank to cycle, I decided to use some mdf I had laying around so mounted the power broads to it so I can slide them out from behind the tank all in one go

Image

I am sure someone will point out its not good to have power boards running from another power board, but the main one is the only one that is surge protected and there is only one power point on the wall where the tank is

also noticed the new light and power pack were getting quite hot so I mounted a fan on the power pack and used an old CPU cooler to cool the light

Image

the fan on the light runs at full speed on a timer with the lights, as for noise I can not hear it over the protein skimmer noise and the air it gives off I can feel coming out of each end of the lights heat sink

Image

Also ordered an extension cable for the lights control box so I can mount it to the mdf.

Sweet set up. I am in the process of getting my MiniReef 150 up and running. Just ironing out the bugs, leak testing, making mods and getting ready for the next phase, adding Sea water.

Are you going to flick the Moray pump ? I hate the damm things, noisy, uneconomical, etc. I am going to gumtree mine its mint in the box unused, as I have ordered an Aqua Medic DC Runner 3.2 which is due tomorrow.

I wish my 150 had the sump space of the160, the 150 sump is cramped . But seeing as I pick my 150 up brand new at a General Auction for $150, I'm not complaining.

I am lucky my moray is very quite (my skimmer pump is louder), I will probably still change it out, but just using it for now

Since the sump does have a space for refugium, I fudged one

Nice, so let me make sense of all of this. You have the bakki plate below the refugum which sits on egg crate. Looks like you have added more glass baffles to your sump and increased the water level. Correct ?

Just added a divider made from report cover spines from office works and Plastic Mesh 7 Count Canvas Sheet from spotlight and a 3D printed black comb to keep the macro algae in one area of the sump, because were the protein skimmer sits it’s just one large open area

I think I am gonna have to get me a 3D printer. What sort of 3D printer would you recommend ?

Yes its amazing what you can utilise from chain stores in the Aquarium. Office Works, Spotlight, Bunnings, Ikea and Daiso have all yielded things for my hobby.

Also I see you sump is the after Market Aqua One glass sump Multi divider, now I understand. All good.

Yeah seems to be good at the moment, it does float for a bit when you first put in, but it did sink to bottom of sump after 24h or so
