I never did any plumbing before! My brother in law did all of it. At least this time I have bought all the fittings. Still trying to figure out where to connect the RO filter as the laundry uses rainwater as well as the outside tap fittings.

Appreciate the offer Dave...will need your assistance stocking it when it's ready to go.

Only rainwater tap. The only place that has a fitting I can screw on and have it off mains supply is in the outdoor dunny which isn't very big so it's going to look a bit ugly and in the way for when someone wants to use the bathroom.

Here's the 'draft' plumbing in place. Any comments / suggestions before I cement it all together?

1st draft of aquascaping done with the help of my oldest daughter. All pieces fit quite securely without glue.

Thanks for the positive comment guys!

This is the water filling / water change rig I'll be using for water changes. The other end is connected to my old Laguna 9000 return pump inside an IBC located in a detached garage.

Image

To control the pump from so far away from the garage I tried a remote control powerboard so I could cut the power when the tank was filled. Got this one because the range is 50m ($42 Bunnings)

Image

Works great!

Just in case the remote failed I had the tap on the waterchange device to manually shut off the water if needed.
Got this one because the range is 50m $42

So starts the cycling phase.

Waiting on delivery of a new RODI filter from PSI filters then need too setup topup tank and soaking of the Zeolite stones.

I forgot how damn noisy the Vortecs are.

Thanks mate. Was all going to plan until I realised that my plumbing for the weir was incorrectly set. The intentional main drain (durso) and gate valve is higher than the backup which means at the moment the roles for the drains are reversed :wall:

At the moment it's all flowing nicely and quiet so I'll just leave it for now.

Laziness breeds efficiency.......I did not want to be carrying drums of water in and out of the house

Ideally the rig should be done with a one piece hose and proper barb / connectors, but at the end of the day when I added up the total for all the hosing and gear it would have cost me 5 times as much as what I ended up with (2 x grey water diverter hoses joined and no barb connectors - the rubber ends on the hoses fit perfectly snug over the 20mm pvc piping and the laguna pump outlet). I was quite chuffed that I saved a few bob.

Dosing container looks neat. I was going to get one similar but end up buying individual container because it is a bit easier to top up or clean when needed without taking all 3 out.....
