Youll be amazed just how good natural light is :) I run a sunlit tank aswell and can only say growth and health is insane. I run led supplement for color and for those cloudy days, 4ft tank with 60w of led has dropped my elect down big time. algae problem , nope! healthy clean up crew does the trick.

Cant wait to see this tank in six months time.
its all about learning.

The tank is pretty much cycled. I got green algae growing on the rocks and all these tiny white bugs on my glass (they are everywhere). Corals should be transferred across sometime this week.

Nice looking build Edi, great to see some more solar action. Which tubes & lenses did you go with?

Where are you going to place the radions?

My glass is full of algae, once I put some elbow grease into cleaning the glass I'll take a FTS

muz_z wrote:How's the solar tubes going Edi?

It seems to be doing fine ATM. I get pretty decent par on a good day. Ranging from 150-450 Par on the sandbed.

I made the mistake of going with flexi-solar tube. I had to use 99% reflective films on the inside and it seems to do the trick. Lesson learnt. I placed the 2 Radion on each side of the tank, running full blue to compliment the yellow sunlight.

Its good that you have brought the tube exit closer to the water, I found this was a major factor in terms of PAR into the tank. Is the 450 on the sand bed just the tubes or with the radions as well?

Really looking forward to seeing your tank grow.

That section I too the reading on was all sunlight. I had the Radion on blue at the back of the tank. Even when I turn the Radion off the reading was about the same. As expected with winter sun, I'm getting less light coming in now.

Wow mate looks really good. I like the look of the wider tanks and how it allows you to build a great aquascape.

Thanks mate, Minimal aquascaping is the way to go.

I prob. buy one of those china brand led that comes with the uv. I don't need anything fancy. I'll be using the blue only anyway.

I know it's still early stage, but I'm getting really good colours atm. Most of my brown have already coloured up. Can't wait to see what happens in 6months time.

Doing abit of experiment. I have obtained some brown SPS. I'm going see how fast they colour under sunlight. I don't any great expectations and I don't expect them all to survive but worth a short.

I would expect faster growth than fast colour under natural light.

Man that is s tarting to look sweet, nothing like real sun light hey :) I found sometimes things got burnt from too much par but nothing beats mother nature. I had to move my tank away due to moving the loungeroom around, MH T5 and led mix is ok but its not like the sun. Im actually seriously looking at buying a plasma LEP for my setup. Flanked by either blue led or T5 actinic.

Love the week, tagging along.
