John's Large Setup

Postby culturedreef » Thu 05 Jan, 2012 7:49 pm

Finally setting up my fish room after 5 years of building it under our house, 55 tonnes of dirt was dug out mostly by hand. Removal of stumps and finally a fish room was built. At the time i had a 100amp power supply with its own circuit breakers installed. Anyway i will try to find photos of the contruction and post them. The current system i will be putting in my fish room will be fully controlled by profilux which will contol several reef tanks and frag setup with one display tank upstairs in the family room. Bubble king skimmer and red dragon pumps will be standard equipment. Enough rambiling when i organize myself i will start to post picures.

Forward to third page for complete setup and system parameters.

OK time for an update. I have been extremly busy after work setting up and dont remember to take photos to often.I had pulled down two reef tanks one was 360lt and the other 200lt. The stock was put into two 950 lt 18 mt x.5mt tubs and a pump and heater/chiller system attached and then new stock of 8 clams 2 x large and 6 x medium various sps, lps and morfs, along with about 20 fish and carpet anenome with shrimp, crabs and clownfish. This is currently set up in our garge, so I can clear out the old equipment and other items that have been stored in the fishroom. The room is 8.4mt x 5.4mt at the widest point. The whole system will run about 3600lt, which inclues quarantine system and two seperate coral frag tanks with the main system having 4 display tanks 2 frag tanks and a small display tank. There is a mix of glass and acrilic tanks.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

I should give you that invite so you can help me with the monster plumbing job. I am total best new customer. The new PVC king. I have to cut a section of our games/ rumpus room and Fiona dosn't want to know about it. I am adding more tanks than original but the system will be more power efficient.

Just about finished assembling over 150mt of pvc pie and about 250 pvc fittings to plumb the system. i think i could possibly take up a weekend job as a plumber if I did not have this system to take up most of my spare time. More pics soon.

Just a quick update with some photos. We had a water test on the 19th Febuary and discovered a few leaks in the acrilic sump system so we had to drain the sump system and do some repair work so the next water test was 26th Febuary with more success no leaks in sump system but a few on some PVC fittings, which are being rectified. the Red Dragon pump took two minutes to fill the 600 litre tank upstairs with plenty of power to spare.ran out of water 2400 litres in system at the moment will probably need another 600 litres to fill the system. Holding tanks in the garage wer at 30.9 the last 2 days, but all stock came through OK. Have to get them into the new system to keep temp under control. Sand in system through yhe week, unfortunatly I havn't been able to keep my 500 kg of sand alive which had a great byodiversity in it. will post probaly next week agin with more pics.My wife did not want to watch the next step when we cut the hole in the games room ceiking for the plumbing, electicity and data cable pipes.

Have had a few problems with leaking PVC fittings, so I have tried various methods to fix them but the only way is to cut it out and do a series of PVC joiners. Will update again shortly.

Full water test last 48 hrs with found more leaks so next 2 days repairs. Sump will have a slight redesign to allow the the Red Dragon return pumps twice the water volume for return. We did an accurate water volume on the system 3300 litres. A seperte quarantine tank with its own sump skimmer, UV and auto R/O top up 150 litres. I will also have a separate coral grow out system that will be 2 x 4ft x 2ft x 1ft stacked with its own sump 500 litres. Water storage is a 1000 IBC plumbed to the fish room that has UV attached. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I can put the stock in and get the system running.
