Sin's 800x800x500

Postby Sin » Thu 12 Aug, 2010 7:38 pm

Introduction:

I have finally run out of room in my 3x2x2 and have decided to start a new build and shut the old one down. The new tank will be an 800x800x500 in 12mm glass with a starphire front , 500mm Calfo weir with 3x25mm pipes for the beananimal overflow and have enough room either side of the overflow for a vortech. The plan is to run zeovit when i get around to getting a bigger sump installed which will house a bigger skimmer and have room for a ZEO reactor.

System Type: Mainly SPS with maybe a zoo here and there.

Display System:

Strike up Date: Currently waiting on quotes and ordering equipment.

Display Tank: 800x800x500 with an internal overflow 12mm glass and a starphire front.

Display Lighting: Inwatter 120w LED

Stand: DIY Stand with Laminex panels

Sump: 2x18x18 (Currently lifting the sump out of my existing tank and using it in this tank then eventually get a new one built.)

Chiller : CL450

Support systems:

System Water: Using ASW

Display Water circulation: Tunze TS24 kit (24000L/H)

Return Pump: Aquabee 3000+

Skimmer: Bubble King Mini

Evaporation Top Up: 20L auto topup

Chemical Support:

Bubble magus dosing pumps to maintain Calcium and Alkalinity

Below is what i am working on.

I hate this hobby :roflmao: :roflmao:

I tried so hard just to be happy with my current setup but i kept seeing so many nice tanks keep popping up on here and i finally gave in. :pirate:

I recieved my first quote today from a LFS here in Newcastle for the tank to be built in 12mm glass with no bracing, smokey glass for the overflow box and back panel, starphire front and polished edges. It seems a little expensive so i may just go with the standard glass, polished edges and maybe the smokey glass overflow and back panel.

Thanks for the offer Luke, I may take you up on that if i need a hand setting up.

I'd choose the starphire over the smokey glass, If they are quoting you too much definitely get another quote, my starphire didn't cost much extra than standard glass, but I built the tank myself.

This project looks like it will be awesome, will be following your build with interest

Wow your tank is the same size. :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

When i first read through your tank journal the first thing i really liked was the size of the tank and said my next build would be the same size. :pirate:,

The sad thing is that here in Newcastle the quote to build it is 4 times more than my 3x2x2. :o , I think i need to ring a few builders in Sydney.

Just got off the phone with St George Aquariums, What a great bunch of people they are.

The tank is now going to be

12mm glass with a starphire front
Polished edges with starphire eurobracing. (They wanted glass rods in the corners originally but agreed to do a strip of eurobrace instead.)

Best of all is that it should be completed in 2 weeks.

Now i have to decide on the stand and get that underway.

I though you wanted to go rimless? 12mm is plenty thick without rods or braces.......

I spent the best part of 1hr talking to the builder about going braceless and he said that they took bracing pretty seriously because it was his name on the line, Which is fair enough.

He wanted to install the glass rods in the corners but i didn't like the look of them and i asked him to install eurobracing instead.

Even with the Eurobrace it'll be tops mate  you sure you're gonna need an ATB Small though? By my maths that's a big bloody skimmer for this system...

It is a pretty big skimmer. :pirate:

I've had a look and it seems like the (Nano Size) - B Version would do the job and it covers up to 1000L tanks. Would the small be too big you think?

I was going to use the Nano B with the MiniAirstar on a ~800L system and wasn't worried, it should easily do your system. Stick to the Nano B with the Eheim pump, it'll more than cover you

Thanks for the comments and feedback everyone.

Ben, I think i will go with the Nano B as it looks more than capable and the Small would be a bit of an overkill.

Good choice mate, particularly if you're gonna go ZEOvit eventually  the Nano B with the Eheim was what Anton recommended me for my system which was going to have very similar specifications so I don't think you'll be wanting for capability.

Made some progress today. So ill update as i go.

Quotes came in for the stand a couple of days ago and the cheapest was a little over $700 just for the frame so i decided to DIY once again, The frame came in at around $70 :roflmao: :roflmao: I am going to use the rest towards the new skimmer. I have completed the frame, Maybe put a small shelf inside to hold the dosing pump and will decide over the next day or so how i am going to clad it.

The lights should hopefully arrive in the next week or so, Some locline has arrived as well as the ball valves and hopefully the rest of the plumbing should be here tommorrow at the latest. St George should hopefully have the tank completed Saturday week.

Not much of an update but things are slowly moving along.
