Thanks guys. I love being able to document these occurances for others to enjoy and learn from. I think the shot to get it still the one with the little babies coming out of his mouth ;)

New FTS - picked up some new corals yesterday

Maze Brain - no word of a lie this is its colour!

Phew there's some algae on the back wall, up till this point I was -very- concerned as your tank was just too perfect :roflmao:.

I love those royal blue leds, such a beautiful colour to them. Wonder if green loans would cover a DIY kit..... ;)

Hi l DAN l,
Great looking tank, and amazing photo of the banggi
I noticed you have a hydrometer stuck in the sump,i HAD the same thing, eventually algae will grow on the needle and make it stick and give you a false reading,i know it happened to me. Keep those photos coming!

We have started vodka dosing - on day 3 now. hopefully this can help get the phosphates tending to zero.
We are following the instructions from the reef keeping article online http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-08/nftt/index.php

Red Acro is still looking ok. Hopefully we should see it darken up after a few weeks of vodka dosing. The white areas are where the colony had been recently split.

Awesome photos Dan, what camera are you using. I really like the colour your DIY led's are putting out, have you done any testing to see how they are performing, were they expensive to make up??
Tony.

Thanks Tony.

Camera - Nikon D300 + Tamron 90mm macro.

LED's would have cost us somewhere around $500 to build - haven't had a chance to do any testing yet but will do once we replace the broken driver - The 6 whites on the RHS are still out.

Surely MASQ has a PAR meter that you can borrow to test your lights.

Yeah I'll eventually pick it up and do some testing. The light is still not at full capacity yet - the buckpucks arrived yesterday so I can hopefully soon get the 6 whites on the right side up and running and then i'll test it.

This weekend's additions are 2 green tipped torch corals and a green acan.
Phosphates are coming down fast with the vodka dosing and nitrates are testing 0 with the salifert test kit :)
Male Banggai is still holding and looking good.

Love the colours in your tank.

Is that a pipefish I see in the bottom left corner? What rate of flow do you have and how does the pipefish handle it?

Hi Dan,

Great work on the LED, the colour is fantastic. Your camera skill is the best I've seen.

Just a caution I had use the same pvc pressure hose as you have and they shed some white filaments into the water.

Yeah its a banded pipefish. We've had him for over a year now in with the other fish and he's fine. He even competes with the tang and clowns at feeding time. Vortech is running at about 3/4 power which would be about 9000lt/h or about 30x turnover.

Dan, do you take requests?
How 'bout a couple of your amazing macro shots of your pipefish? That would be cool I think.

We have baby Banggai

Think we learnt our first lesson and tried to put the male into the sump to early. He didn't like it and spat out all the bubs. They were 23 days on but still look quite undeveloped. They are free swimming but still have the egg sac and clear apart from their black stripes. Photos to come tomorrow if they make it through the night.

Well the good news is they are all alive this morning (only 1 is not looking so good) and i've counted 20! They are all off the bottom and swimming in the artificial urchin. I'll take some close ups soon I just want them to settle into the bright lights for an hour or so before sticking the camera in there up close.
