A few pics from today. Tank is seemingly stable at the moment. Vodka/vinegar dosing is doing well to keep nutrients low. Carx is stable and helping Witt growth.

Hi Nathan, just wondering if you're still dosing lanthanum to reduce PO4? If so, how do you remove the flocculent? Do you find this better than using GFO?
Thanks

Thanks all.

Yes still using the lanth (50:50) mix. Dosing straight into the sump.
It seems a lot more consistent than gfo, you can just keep dosing the same amount daily with the same feedings and phos stays fairly stable. The vodka and vinegar will be bringing some phos down also

What sort of benefits do you seeing using vodka and vinegar together?
I'm dosing vinegar on its own and it does bring the nitrate down but I'm seeing a bit of a cyano problem which has started to go away but only due to shortening the photo period I think. not sure if the vinegar has got anything to do with it.

Good to hear the lanth is working out well directly in the sump.

I might try it out when the gfo runs out.

I was hoping it would help keep the bacteria in multiple strains. I read that plain vodka dosing can cause a mono strain and prevent the nitrogen cycle happening. I have no proof it works, I do dose the continuum bacteria at 4ml a day aswell, so that may help with bacteria population.

Just make sure you dilute the lanth down a lot, I used a 50:50 mix but that is still fairly strong. Start really slow, and do that for a week or more then up it. Lanth can be brutal and just strip all the phos out real fast which I found a lot of sps don't like

Good to see lanth is working for you Nathan! So from what I understand, you don't try and trap/remove the white flocculent? How much do you dose each day of your 50:50 mix? From what I've read people say it can kill tangs because the flocculent clogs their gills.

Once they get the probiotic range in over the next few months I might start using the aquaforest bacteria and carbon dosing range which is supposed to sustain low nutrients. going to start of by trying some of there supplements and salt first and see how the quality is. a lot of nice looking tanks over seas using there products. apparently they are giving zeovit a run for there money.

I'm currently dosing 3ml a day of 50% lanth and 50% ro.
I haven't had any trouble with the tangs so far.

Yeah apparently their range is very good! Id like to see some Aussie tanks running it before I get to excited by it all tho.

I love seeing a really nice leather coral included in the set-up. So many tanks are all SPS which is great but i think some of the soft corals are underated.

I'm trying to steer towards the mixed reef again. Lost site of it quite a while ago. Definitely makes it more impressive when you can see the flow in the tank moving corals around

So it's been a long time since an update.
Tank seems to have been running fairly smoothly for about 3 months. Haven't had time for maintenance so leaving it alone has been good for it.
Should have triton test results soon. Might help explain the cyano which comes and go

Favourite view of the tank is this at the moment. It's grown out really well down this end of the tank
