Front face of the tank is finished and stainless steel frame in position
I had the frame made in 4 pieces at first and just didn't look right.
I had one of our suppliers lazer cut one from a single piece if marine grade stainless .
Looks right and Annette is loving the results so far.
I will be tiling the rest of the house next and start the wiring .

The inside of the tank wall has been fully lined and painted with waterproof base cote and the top coat was a water resistance paint .
my mate gave it to me and assures me you can paint timber and submerse it in water and will not penetrate .
He uses it to paint timber furniture for medical pathologies and hospitals . he gave some technical jargon but all i was interested in was waterproof .
I had to test his claims, so i painted a small piece of MDF and let it cure 24 hours between coats .
I placed it in water with a heavy weight on top for 7 days , after which i pulled it out and to my amazement it was perfect.
Im a believer , PRAISE THE LORD !!!!

Im ready to start the wiring now , woohoo im getting closer .

This is one of about 10 looms of orange circular wiring i will be using, i was going to use field wiring , it would have been cheaper but i preferred to have all the GPO wiring grouped to simplify identification.
I will be running all the wiring in ducting . This will help to isolate the wiring from exposure to water .
It will also allow me to be creative in the design of the GPO locations. I will have 36 for now but have left room for expansion.

some of the weather proof GPO installed above the tank, there is 6 more outlets on the right hand side as well.
im using weatherproof GPO in all areas where there might be a slight chance of water splash .Best to safe than sorry i guess.

thanks , its been a hard journey so far , but rewarding.

I Let her decide the colours , a bit of give and take . Anything to keep the progress on the setup !!

I think i have finally convinced her the tank will add value to the house, and its a live feature wall.

Thanks , its good to hear that.

It seems standard practice amongst fellow reefers to allow partners to choose , colours, style, and all the other tangible items around the home .

We are all quite calm and understanding to thier needs , it makes a good playing field .

UNTIL..............

There comes a point when, THEY WANT TO MAKE CHANGES TO THE AQUARIUM !!!!!!!!!

A new circuit has been installed specifically for the aquarium room (converted garage)
I will be using 3 control boards to house the RCD, MCB and timers.
There will also be a provision to expand it at a later date for the frag and quarantine tanks.
The idea of using a large metal box to house all the controls was going to be used , but it was going to look to industrial.
I wanted it to blend in and not to conspicuous .

I am keeping an eye for ideas on how you do your wiring for your tank. Mine is all temporary at the moment, with plans on installing a sub board with a multi core cable running to a water tight enclosure under my tank, and then hard wiring everything to some Wago terminals. Not keen on putting GPO's in the tank cavity due to AS3000.

I am guessing you are an electrician also?

I ran a new supply line to to the aquarium service room , there i have 3 x 18 Pole Distribution Boards.
The first one houses the main supply and the other 2 are sub boards. All are GPO circuits are fitted with RCDS (as per 3000 ).
All GPO fitted under the tank are rated ip66 . i used 2.5mm orange circular with compression glands to to the under side of the GPO.
Multi core cabling is good to use but i am using some of the GPO to run AQUATRONICA controls so i was a bit hesitant running Multi.
I had some issues once before with sensitive control gear. im running most of the cabling in 50 X 50 duct and isolating the ones i consider sensitive.
I may be overly cautious but , i dont wont to go back and re do it.

From the the information i receive from the electrical engineer , its all compliant to AS 3000.

As with all 240v electrical work , this should only be performed by a licensed electrician .

i will be posting a more detailed description and pictures of the control board
Im trying to keep it simple and practical.
I could have gone the other way and it would look like a control box for a space shuttle (Ive done that before to)

I installed the RCDs only to find the they were the wrong rating from what i had ordered.

Luckly only installed 2 of the 36 .

started to connect up some of the GPO under the Display tank, i used weather proof outlets to ensure there is no chance of moisture creating dry joints.

One of the distribution boards ready , 2 more to go. I'm having a change of mind regarding the timers . I have used them on a project and had one melt down. Really don't want this to happen to me, I was hesitant to use them as they are made in china and normally that's a no no for me . Most things I have used that we're made in china I've had to replace due to failure or under rated from specification stated.

Im not making my own , it's not worth experimenting for me , I don't have a spectrum analyzer yet to get a perfect balance of colours .
I purchased a proven product and studied their analysis report. It was the easy way out at this stage.
There are members on the forum who have built their own and have succeeded , A big credit to them .
I have limited time, renovating the home and building my tank ,makes it hard to fit all other projects.
