Petes-Aquarium new build. (New FTS and Macro pics)

Introduction:
Welcome to my new tank build, the tank is ready the water is in and the rock has started to go in slowly . The rockwork will be nice and open with lots of swimming room for coral growth. Fish count will be kept to a minimum as my main focus is on the corals. I will be trying to source most corals from frags and grow them out as much as possible.

System Objectives: Have an awesome colourful reef tank.

System Type: SPS dominated reef.

Display System:

Strike up Date: 06/05/2012

Display Tank: 1700x800x700 Starphire front and side. Thanks to Dennison for the great tank build


Display Lighting: Custom DIY LED’s, more info to come. Ignore the MH (I hate the 20K globe in it way to blue) on the tank atm, temporary untill I get my LED's sorted out.

Stand: Hardwood, using existing bar brickwork.

Hood: Tank will be in-wall look, once finished.

Sump: 1600x330x500


Refugium: Small section in sump, possibly convert my current 3 ft tank into the refugium, haven’t decided yet.

Deep Sand Bed: No

Refugium Lighting: Custom DIY LED

Chiller: Hailea 1000A

Support systems:

System Water: Fist fill NSW, water changes will be ASW.

Display Water circulation: 2x MP60 and Vertex M ocean on return pump.

Return Pump: Laguna Power Jet 11000.

Refugium Pump: N/A

Skimmer: Skimz SK252, Pic is after half day running, not bad so far.


Evaporation Top Up: Tunze Osmolator

Chemical Support:

Calcium Addition: Kalk Via Dossing pump

Alkilinity Addition: Dossing pump

Other Chemical Maintenance: Vertex bio-pellets in Vertex UF20 reactor. Seachem Phosguard.

Current Water Chemistry:

Let the cycle begin.
Nitrates: 0.00
Phosphates: 0.00
Amonium: 0.25
Alkalinity: 5dKH
Calcium:
Salinity / Specific Gravity: 1.024

Today's progress is a new big bit of rock for the centre of the tank, knowing me it all will be different layout in a week or so... lol. Love getting big bits of rock so easy to place in the tank and so stable... .


Also I think I may have my first addition waiting in my other tank...


Really can't wait to get this cranking.

OK small update, the tank is all good water is great cycle was small and sweet I guess due to only about 25KG live rock being used. OK so the plan this weekend is to combine my two tanks to the one sump, I am guessing as long as the water is very close parameters wise I shouldn't have any dramas.....? What you guys think. I will be making sure ALK, CA, SG and temp are as close to each other as possible.

G'Day all,

A small update to my tank. First a new FTS...


Tank is going real good so far, finally got Alk, Ca stable with dosing pumps. corals are looking nice and have good PE. Some macros are below. Can anyone help ID the below also.

Anyone ID this snail for me please I have been trying to figure out what it is, the tank has 100's of them. They seem to be eating algae but they are occasionally going on corals for a sec and then go straight off. I pray they aren't pyramid or acro eating snails. They may be baby cerith snails maybe....?

The one that was on the monti was on for a sec and went straight off, I can't see any visible bite marks.

A bit of an update. The tank is going great so far, trying to keep on top of water quality is a mission so far Ca and Alk are stripped from the tank so fast it's not funny. Also I have ordered my new lights for the tank Going with 3x GHL Mitras (but still going to run the MH as well for at least an hour or two each day), can't wait for the release date...

Yeah pretty sure they are cerith, doesn't matter my new trio of leopard wrasses made minced meat out of them...

The growth from the Dallas is great so far and the colour has come back good as new. I'll upload a photo soonish. On another note, bring on the GHL's I have ordered...

Hey Jono long time no see have to catch up. It's the Vertex M-Ocean 3500 Click It is great on my return line allot better than a non moving stream. Would recommend it. I got Ben from Age of Aquariums to order it in for me.

The only thing I hate about it is if it looses power it looses its settings. But it is on my UPS so not really a big deal.

Yeah has been a while, was going to pop down the the meet last weekend but since getting back allot has been happening.

I will look into it, I thought Ben would have had the buttery weren't listed on his website.

Did you end up getting the 2 mp60s or are you running 1 too see if you need the extra one first.? Am hoping to setup a new 1500x750x600 in the next few months so am looking at the options of rather pair of 40s or single 40/60 and m-ocean

I'll have to check this tank out one day be good to see the m-ocean in action, I gather they are a few bucks

Anyway mate, if you need that Vinyl for the back of the tank let me know, just shoot me an email!

The price for the m-ocean wasn't that bad from memory, I'm sure Ben will be able to get you in one.

I have the two MP60's running they work very well for the size of the tank probably a little too much, personally wish I went 1x MP60 on the side front with a couple Tunzes on the back wall. I will more than likely end up getting a Tunze 6105 with controller for the back wall also, not that there isn't enough flow with the MP60's just want a bit of cross flow action.

Small update, tank is going well still, getting good growth out of some of the acros and stags. Here are a couple pics of the Dalas frags that Tone gave me, they are going great.... Thanks again Tone...

For you Rob, here's an update... Some coral colour has slipped due to lack of light, I have since added another 250watt MH to keep me going for a little bit. Hopefully I can afford my GHL's when they come in, since I have been made redundant at work. See what happens.
