Introduction:
Well I thought it was about time I put pen to paper and started my tank journal. I have been slowly planning this tank since i rejoined the forum. I have had a few marine tanks before this one and I hope to change a few things that annoyed me with my last tank with better planning. The main issues I had before were overflowing DT due to persistent hermits clogging my overflow. I also plan to have a better water change system as carrying 20L buckets through the house was hard work and I didnt do it as often as I should have.

My DT will be situated in our living room and I am keeping the Sump under the house where I can have as much junk as I like and I wont get any complaints. I can then keep a large water storage tank nearby and I can gravity feed the new water into the sump making water changes easier.

I thought it might be best to get an engineers report on the weight of my tank and whether my flooring can handle it. I worked out the total weight of the tank and stand will be about 1.5tonne which will be situated on timber flooring .
I got the report back today and I only have to add a couple of joists and strenghten the bearer under the tank.

A few updates on my tank build.

I have ordered my DT and sump. The tank builder has been kind enough to supply a few sketches of the DT. Cheers Dennison.
I am having it built with 3 sides starfire so I cant wait to see the finished product.

I plan on having a return pump of around 10000 to 12000lph and am wondering if 20mm return is enough. I might change it to 25 or 32mm. I was also looking to change the siphon to 32mm for more flexibilty. Any input is welcome.

I am keeping the sump under the house. I have started to build the tank stand at approx 3m by 2m to accomodate the sump and various water containers for topup and dosing.

My water storage tank needs to fit in here.

A little update to my tank build. I am hopefully taking delivery of my tanks this weekend.

A couple of drawings of my sump. I have included a large area for a DSB but am undecided whether to go down that path. It will be a great area for frags in the future if I dont fill it with sand

Not the best phot of my DT, but it looks awesome in person. Cant wait to have it wet.

Lots of holes in my sump. Plenty of bulkheads to fit. Hope to have the sump up and running in 2 weeks

Well my sump is wet. I am running the sump for a couple of months with a dsb and live rock/base rock while I get things ready for the DT. I hope to have it fairly settled and by august I can fill my DT and have very little die of on the live rock.

I am starting to get a few things together to hopefully have my DT wet in about 3 weeks. I picked up my light stand made out of 316 stainless. It will be secured to the stand behind the fish tank. At the moment I have purchased 2 pacific sun led lights with the intention of putting 2 250w MH with them, but I will see how it looks first.

I have started to work on my aquascaping for the DT. I built a temporary stand in my garage to replicate the height of my DT. From the front I am trying to acheive a valley with a nice open area at the front

some more aquascaping from the right side

The aquascaping is harder than I thought it would be. At least I can take my time and get it looking closer to how I pictured it.

Thanks mate. I made a list of things that were a PITA with my last few tanks, like lugging buckets of water through the house and snails clogging up the overflow pipes, and made a few improvements.

Just a short update on the tank. I have done the majority of the plumbing for the tank. Because my sump is under the house there has been a heap of plumbing to do. I think I have spent way over what I thought I would on plumbing gear. Bunnings must love me. I was undecided how I would pipe the water up into the house into the DT, but I went with through the wall as it will be easier to repair one day rather than holes in the floor boards. My wife wasnt to happy when she came home from work though.

I had a couple of stainless wall plates made up to make it a bit neater but there was a stud in the way so I had to change it abit.

I finally got my stand finished and inside the house. I didnt think of the logistics involved in getting a 4 by 4 tank and stand into the house but it will be worth it.
