I like the closed loop systems, but in the ocean, when does the water come out of the sea floor :roflmao: .

If you get your vortechs on a back panelk where it is black, you will barely see them. Look at what guys like stripes are doing with there.

Get it right and have a nice wave action, will look very natural.

I guess another option worth considering is a closed loop in the hidden end (as in, from the side and not the base) in conjunction with VorTechs... run the CL in "tides" (6/6/6/6 hour blocks)... could get some interesting flow dynamics out of a tank this shape...

You mean like Deek's http://www.masa.asn.au/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=208704&start=150.

Can't imagine Flipper coping with that plumbing :roflmao: .

Would be awesome though.

The only other thing I was thinking was to somehow plum the return somewhere at the other end, probably from the top.
Kean you're more than welcome to plumb it for me ;)

Could do the return like blags did, run the pipework along the top on a rack then drop into the tank?

Yeah, Thats what I was thinking. Splitting the pipe with a tee at the end. It wont be a huge amount of flow but will add to the flow

And having vortechs is going to stop him from getting TOTM? :roflmao:

At the end of the day Flipper, do what you want. It is your tank, not everybody elses.

Do what will be easier for you to set up, install and maintain.

Hey Flipper :)

I would have to say without a doubt that Vortechs will be far and away easier...
Put them on a black background and they will blend in nicely.

You will also have alot more room under the stand.

cheers,

Sometimes we try and do too much, then it all gets too hard. I looked at closed loops, then the holes/plumbing got more complicated than I was capable of handling. My tank is setup now and I am so happy I kept it simple.

Thanks guys. I need it to be easy and I need to do what i'm comfortable with and im not the handyman. Vortechs are about as difficult as it gets for me. Im into creativity so I will work on my aquascaping

No problem me doing the plumbing for you Flipper as long as your supplying the beer.I dont claim to be an expert plumber by any means but i spent Sunday setting up the plumbing on my sons new tank and actually really enjoyed it.
In no way was i suggesting he couldnt win TOTM with Vortechs in there just a personal opinion(im sure were still allowed to have them in this democratic country) that a tank looks better without them.Kean

I felt uncomfortable putting holes in my base so that's why I went with the Vortechs. You can hardly notice them. Have a look at some vids and you will know what I mean.

I plan to put my Vortechs on the back wall as well, yep, my wall is painted black as well.

Your setup sounds and looks like it will be fanatastic Flip :).

HI Flipper
Now I'm home (was at work when I PM you) I have been able to measure it a bit better.
Make the back pane of glass on your tank (front lip on Calfo) the height you want the water level to be in your tank.
The water level in my weir is about half way up the elbows on the Beanimal setup which makes it a 60mm drop for the water over the edge of the weir & is silent.

Hope that helps

The measurements look good Flip, the elbows will be fully submerged within the overflow section so the syphon should start fine after a blackout.

Are you going 25mm all the way with bulkheads and piping?

The way I have drawn it is with a 35mm hole, thus allowing for a 25mm bulk head (going off of the hansen brand of bulkhead that's the size hole they require.). Let me know if ya want it changed flip.
