Turbellarian Infection
From RTAW Reefpedia
| Zebrasoma flavescens, Yellow Tang |
Introduction
Also known as Black Oodinium, Black "Ich", Black Spot and Tang Turbellarian.
Turbellarians are generally free living flatworms, with some being parasitic[1][1] and of concern to aquarists. The turbellarian Paravortex sp. is often associated with the Yellow Tang (Zebrasoma flavescens).[1], visable as a tiny black dot and referred to as Tang Turbellarian. A number of species are known to infect marine fish across several families[1][1] and possibly have some host specificity.[1]
Causes
Symptoms
The tang Turbellarian appears as small (less then 0.75mm)[1] black spots on the skin, gills and fins. Other symptoms include loss of color and appetite, scratching and a lack of energy.
Similar Symptoms
- A condition often referred to as skin hyper-melanisation in clownfish, appearing as black spots.
- Dirt stuck to the mucus coat of the fish.
