Introduction

Nitroimidazoles are a group of antibiotics that are used for treatment of anaerobic bacterial and parasitic infections in humans. The most common example is metronidazole. Its mode of action is it is selectively absorbed by anaerobic bacteria and sensitive protozoa where it undergoes a reduction reaction producing toxic products that then kill the cells.

Commercial products that contain these antibiotics include:

Treatment
