Introduction
Iodine (I2) can be used as an antibacterial agent or as an additive to increase the levels of iodine. It dissociates upon addition to water to form iodide (I-) and iodate (IO3-).
Lugols’ solution consists of a mixture of mixture of I2 and I-.
